The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) Announces New Collaboration with the HIMSS Medical Banking Project (HIMSS MBProject)

Fairfax, VA – The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) www.aaham.org , announced a recent collaboration agreement with the HIMSS Medical Banking Project. 

AAHAM will be participating in several joint projects with the MBProject, including exhibiting at the National Medical Banking Institute, held concurrently with the annual HIMSS conference in Atlanta, Georgia, February 28 to March 4.

“We’re excited to enter into this collaboration with AAHAM, especially as the industry braces for 5010 and ICD10 transformation. The impact on banking and financial services will be broad in terms of technology integration for revenue cycle improvement, credit impact at both the consumer and business level and more,” said John Casillas, Senior Vice President of the HIMSS Medical Banking Project. 

In conjunction with AAHAM, HIMSS MBProject will address critical educational needs and advance a new multi-stakeholder industry initiative and neutral platform to design the future state of our healthcare financial network” he added.

The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) Holds Annual National Institute

Fairfax, VA – The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) www.aaham.org , held its Annual National Institute (ANI), “The Future of Healthcare in a Changing Economy, Everything New Under the Sun”, October 14-16, 2009 in Scottsdale, Arizona.        

Attendees from across the country attended educational sessions, networked and visited exhibitors to learn about the latest in products and services available to the industry.  

“Despite the draw of the beautiful Arizona weather, attendees packed the room to hear to our insightful keynote speakers and take part in the strong educational programs” said President, Laurie A. Shoaf, CPAM. The nearly 500 conference goers included patient account managers, business office personnel, medical billing professionals, medical office managers, patient access managers, coding specialists, compliance officers and hospital chief financial officers.  

Keynote speakers included Futurist, Bob Treadway and Connie Merritt, RN, BSN, PHN. Lobbyist Paul Miller of Miller Wenhold, LLC, presented the Institute’s closing session encompassing the direction of healthcare reform and the implications for the future. 

Fifty session speakers presented topics in five separate healthcare tracks; Management/Revenue Cycle, Access/Quality Management, Compliance, Leadership/Professional Development and Specialty.

The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) Holds 5th Annual Legislative Day

Fairfax, VA – The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) www.aaham.org , a professional association, held its fifth annual Legislative Day, April 15-16, 2009 at the Liaison on Capitol Hill. 

 

More than 100 members of the association participated in the congressional overview discussion, “Healthcare Reform and What Congress has Planned for this Session” and attended one on one meetings with their senators.       

“We were extremely pleased with the participation in the event by our members as this Legislative Day drew the largest number of attendees than previous gatherings. With the current economic cutbacks; it was especially meaningful that this many members placed such a high level of importance in attending and participating, said Laurie Shoaf, CPAM, AAHAM President.   

We accomplished our goal of having the majority of senators agree to support AAHAM’s four key issues of:
  1. Establishment of National Payer Identifiers;
  2. Mandating the use of a Standard Patient Identification Card;
  3. Adding a HIPAA transaction for claim-by-claim acknowledgements and
  4. Requiring all payers to have the ability to pay electronically using Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT) or Automated Check Handling (ACH) transfers. 

Additionally, senators agreed on sending a letter to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, urging the adoption of these actions.

The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) Announces New Logo and Mission Statement

Fairfax, VA – The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) recently launched a new branding campaign encompassing a logo and revised mission statement designed to reflect the association’s growth and continued focus on healthcare revenue cycle professionals.  

The new logo kicks off a focused branding campaign offering a modernized font, design and colors to provide widespread, recognizable identity.  

The new branding program will unify the AAHAM brand across all products and platforms to reinforce their presence in the healthcare community. The logo will be placed on all association communications and publications, exhibit booths and the new website, which will debut later this spring.
